Things can change: water can become wine, families can be reconciled, justice can replace violence, peace can cover the land. And people can change when they get a chance. Love can change hardness of heart into compassion, prayer can change a selfish style of life into generosity.

With the touch of Jesus water can change into wine, and men and women can change and become more like God. God sees us as we are and as we can be. As the water was changed at the word of Jesus and the prayer of Mary, so too the world can change at the word of Jesus, made active through us, and the prayer of Mary and his followers.

We are not stuck in the present, nor are we prisoners of the past. The followers of Jesus are people with a future. We are the people of the Resurrection.

And so this day we make a prayer for justice where there is inequality, for peace where there is violence, for love where there is hate. And all this can happen, when we try to put on the mind and heart of God.
